Guides 2017

  • Hachette 2017 :

80% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc on clay-limestone machine-picked at night. Lees stirred. Bottled early.
Rather sweet initial impression then very fresh – acidified? – finish. Perfectly nice but not that distinguished. Drink 2016-2017  15.5/20

Timéo 2015 Corbières 95% very low-yielding Roussanne grown at 400 m and 5% Grenache Blanc. Half was barrel-fermented.
Unlike Premiers Pas sur la Lune, this really does smell strongly of Roussanne in a herbal, fragrant, lime blossom sort of way. Not explosive but very neat and well made. Lots of depth and some lime flavour and tension suggesting there is a real future for this wine. Brava! Drink 2016-2019 16.5/20

En Rébellion Pinot Noir 2015 IGP Pays d’Oc Pale garnet. Slightly muddy Pinot flavours but definitely more Pinot than any other variety! Quite a novelty for the northern Corbières. Tannins a little insistent and the fruit is not quite as fresh as I’d like but it’s certainly a good effort. I look forward to tasting future vintages from rather older vines. Quite delicate and tender. Fun! Perhaps my score is a little harsh? Drink 2016-2018 15.5/20

Hector & Juliette 2014 Corbières 90% Syrah, 10% Grenache from the Montagne Alaric in the relatively suave far north of the appellation.
Lovely label with a wedding photograph of current vigneronne Christelle’s great-grandparents. 12 months in French oak – which currently leaves its mark just a tad too obviously. But great care has been taken with this wine from a family domaine, certified organic in 2014. Way to go! Drink 2017-2022 16/20

Les Mains sur les Hanches 2015 Corbières 85% Grenache, 15% Syrah and aged in new barriques, bottled relatively early.
Oak is just a little too obvious. Shows that Grenache doesn’t really like new oak. Future vintages may be more successful? Drink 2018-2020 15/20

Timéo 2011 Corbières  Local blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault aged in new oak from a variety of coopers.
Deep crimson. Excellent tannin management. Most agreeable blend of Corbières local fruit with careful, sophisticated vinification. Brava! The wine from this excellent vintage is now drinking very well but there’s no hurry to enjoy it. Great balance. Drink 2015-2020 17/20
